Billet Crankshaft Sprocket #306562

One of the standout products developed for the Barra engine is an entirely new crankshaft sprocket by Atomic. Early in our research, it became clear that the factory crank sprocket was prone to premature wear. Ford addressed this issue around 2005 by induction hardening the teeth, but Atomic sought a superior solution.

Moving away from the factory-style sintered type and low carbon material, Atomic manufactured the sprocket from case-hardenable billet steel in Sydney, Australia. Leveraging extensive engine-building expertise, Atomic introduced several design enhancements. The teeth were CNC programmed with a “true roller” tooth form instead of the traditional push tooth form, resulting in reduced friction and a smoother drive. The crank trigger teeth were reprofiled to deliver a cleaner signal for the crank angle sensor. Furthermore, the teeth were case-hardened to HRC60, and the entire sprocket underwent a black oxide treatment.
